Abbey Road Remasters The Beatles on B&W
The remastering of The Beatles catalog truly is an historic event.
As a fan through-out my life (in fact, The Beatles without a doubt inspired my lifelong passion for music), it is a thrill to be able to rediscover these treasured recordings. It is just as thrilling to me to see that successive generations have discovered The Beatles music, including my college aged children and their peers. We are, after all, talking about a band whose last recording was made very close to 40 years ago.
As you know, The Beatles recorded at Abbey Road Studios throughout their career. Although Abbey Road Studios pre-existed The Beatles by decades, it is safe to say that the Beatles made the studios immortal.
Paul McCartney himself praises the sound quality of these new remasters. Quoted in Rolling Stone, September 3, 2009, he says, It sounds like I’m back in the session. I hear John and think, There he is. You can close your eyes and see him, because the quality is so real.
That, of course, is the sacred aspect of what we do in our end of the business. We have the ability though sadly not always exercised to create 3-dimensional, living, breathing and emotionally connected music. The Beatles remasters are a fantastic reminder of how significant that is! In this day of compressed music, an event of this magnitude is more than a little bit helpful in refocusing the public discussion on sound quality. I know that millions of people are wondering exactly what that means. Who better to step up and show them than you!
Our involvement with Abbey Road Studios is decades long now, too.
Twenty-five pairs of 800Ds grace the control rooms, fifty Classe CA-M400s powering the 800Ds, along with five ASW-855s, numerous N802s and 805S and even some vintage 802 Matrix. I’m told that the engineering staff there is eagerly awaiting the arrival of our new DB1 subwoofer, as deep bass has become an increasingly important part of film mastering. We’re delighted to have played a pivotal role in the overall reproduction standards that Abbey Road represents. I know from having visited that the engineers there believe the level of clarity we have achieved with 800 Series is totally beyond any other monitor they’ve tried, and an essential tool in maintaining their quality standards.
I hope you have some time this weekend to re-experience The Beatles music!
Sincerely,

Doug Henderson

“B&W have surpassed themselves yet again. Immediately on hearing the new N800D’s we decided to equip all of Abbey Road’s control rooms that have surround monitoring. They are all biamplified by the excellent Classe CA – M400′s and used in combination with the mighty new ASW855 sub. The N800D’s clarity and evenness throughout an extensive frequency range produces stunning results. We’re also investing in the N802D’s and N805D’s to give our clients an even greater variety of monitoring options.”
