I just want to take a second to tell you how much I appreciate you servicing my 8 year old system on the same day I called. I couldn’t believe that you even had the same technician that originally did installed gear there to service it. Also getting my speakers replaced under warranty after 8 years was just above and beyond – Thank you very much and I will keep the referrals coming!!

Ron – I’ve been enjoying this thing all weekend.  The crossover ability is a tremendous advantage over my old 2 ch. only system.  You know that really relaxed feel the upper end systems have, like when you turn up the volume there’s no strain.  Well my Aerial 5’s w/ the JL 112 now have that feel.  It’s really excellent.

Also, I’m playing my 2 ch. Cd’s in the “multi channel stereo” mode.  I’m selecting the “channel level feature” and adjusting my sub volume through there.  It’s a nice feature, because I don’t have to get up to fuss with the sub and take off that very sturdy grill that the JL has.  Also, I’m adjusting down the center channel by about -1.0 to –3.0 decibels.  It’s giving me some wanted extra dynamics without bothering the stereo imaging too much.

Another killer feature… you can adjust the “mute” level.  I’m using it in -20db mode so I can “turn it down a notch” as we say in our modern parlance at the press of a button on the remote.

BTW – I was a bit unsure about the quality of that Snell center channel.  Then I got it hooked up with and  I worry no more.  It’s really perfect.  (I still need to wall mount it, it’s on the tv furniture right now.)   That Snell center keeps up with my Aerials just fine.

On the A/V front, the “digital” audio signal coming from our Comcast service is shockingly good.  We listened to a Christina Agulierra concert on an hd channel last night.  It was coming through in multi channel format (the center was doing most of the vocals, the mains were doing most of the band.)  I still chose to turn down the center a bit.  It’s incredibly cool to be able to turn down the voice and turn up the band.

Another advantage to this piece, the volume control. I can make adjustments in such minute increments.  My traditional 2ch preamp was not near this precise.

I wrote Marantz b/c my iphone 3gs doesn’t play reliably through the usb input.  My ipod plays fine, it’s just the phone that’s giving me trouble.  I tried running it in airplane mode- no luck.  The owner’s manual says that the system supports the iphone model I have, the 3gs, so I can’t figure out the problem.  Let’s see what Marantz says.  I’ll let you know.
