I guess it depends on just what everything means...I would start with the Klipsch HD300 speakers package and a Marantz NR1501 A/V Receiver...once you add a basic Blu-Ray player to this you will be around your 1k.  You will still need some cables and wires so it will break the budget a little bit; but you will have a nice little starter system that is much better then the HomeTheater-In-A-Box stuff that is out there.  Plus you will have lots of room to grow and expand as your needs change which the HTIB systems do not allow at all.
