For those not sure CEDIA is the Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association, and there is a yearly show we attend to see all of the new goodies coming our way for the fall.
I have just returned from 3 days at the show, and here is the news on the cool new things I saw.
First, remember the name
I choose to believe that the trust that a client purchases when they hire a CEDIA member company is well placed. One of the primary reasons that CEDIA was formed was to establish custom electronics design and installation as a valid profession, a profession on par with, say, architects. We wanted to dispel the image of trunk slamming electronic cowboys with no business planning beyond raising this weekend’s beer budget. Home Theater: The Next Generation
This theater is very real-and very cool. Its anonymous owners had originally envisioned a traditional home theater. However, when Jay Miller, president of Acoustic Innovations, noticed that the client was a collector of “vintage” video games, an idea was born. “It adds a lot to the experience, because you are introduced to the theme when you enter the bar and ready-room area,” says Jeff Hoover, president of Audio Advisors. “It sets the mood that something cool, fun and exciting is about to happen.”
Residential Systems (Sept. 2002)
In September 2001, the world became a different place. Greatly overshadowed that month by the tragic events of 9/11 was the custom installation industry’s signature event, CEDIA EXPO, and the beginning of a new presidential term for the association. Just a few days before the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, CEDIA’s new president, Jeff Hoover stepped into the leadership spotlight, assuming the post held by his accomplished successor, Steve Hayes.
